DEPARTURE FROM THE OLD HOMESTEAD, 1862 p

Brazil

Neuchâtel emigrants to Brazil

Philippe Huguenin (-Vuillemenet) (b. La Brévine 31 January 1787) received a passport for Brazil on 14 April 1819.  He arrived there with his son and went to the state of Bahia in the east of the country. His parents were Pierre-Fredric Huguenin-Vuillemenet and Rose-Marguerite Guy and his Huguenin-Vuillemenet line goes back to  David Huguenin-dit-Vuîllemenèt who died before 1745.

Frédéric-Louis Huguenin (b. Le Locle, 9 June 1817), cousin of American emigrant Ami-Louis, emigrated from Switzerland to Brazil, where he married Marie-Ursule Cortat, a naturalised Brazilian originally from the Swiss or French Jura, in 1852. This couple apparently has many descendants today and we would be particularly interested in hearing from them as we have no details on this branch of the family. Frédéric-Louis’ line goes back to Abram Huguenin, who died before 1698.

Ulysse Huguenin, a resident of Colombier, also received a passport for Brazil dated 8 February 1866.  We are not sure of his link to the main Huguenin family at present.

Charles-Gustave Perret,  (b. Le Locle, 18 December 1815), a watchmaker, emigrated to Brazil where he married Caroline Anne Prétat (b. Nova Friburgo, 29 March 1820), daughter of Germain de Prétat (b. 9 December 1792 in Switzerland). Charles-Gustave was the son of Charles Henri Perret and Marianne Contesse and his line goes back to Abram Perret, a local councillor in La Sagne in the early 1700’s. Charles-Gustave’s uncle, Abram Perret, emigrated initially to Canada before settling in the US.

Ulysse-Alexis Perrenoud (b. Les Ponts-de-Martel, 2 November 1834) emigrated to Brazil and married Mariana Francelina de Mello some time before 1890 when their son was born. Ulysse was the son of Verther Perrenoud and his first wife Philippine Maire-dit-Georget, with Perrenoud ancestors dating back to the beginning of the 15th century. Ulysse's half-brother Fritz-Emile emigrated to the US in 1885.
